cherry pie

I made a cherry pie Saturday.  I’d been promising one for my son for weeks.  Yummy.  Here’s what I do with my leftover pie crust.  This is something that my mom always did and her mom as well.  I’m not sure how far it goes back with the moms in my family.

Take your leftover bits of crust and put them on a cookie sheet.  Sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar and put in your heated oven (whatever temp it was from baking your pie) and cook until done.  Just about 5 minutes, maybe a little more.  It doesn’t take long.  Let them cool a bit and enjoy!

My kids love them and I do, too.  It’s hard for me to share sometimes.  This is how we always had strawberry shortcake, too.  With big pieces of flat pie crust, not those sponge shortcakes.  I can’t even eat it with those, I have to have my pie crust!  I hope you enjoy!

I started a new project last night. I stumbled upon this older pattern from Amy Butler at a local quilt store over the summer. I had to buy it because the pillow is just too cute! And I just love the little spider pattern that is included with it. I still haven’t made the pillow yet, but I need to soon because I know that Baby G would love laying on it. I dug out my tub of fabric scraps last night and so far I have all of the pieces cut out and the legs sewn and stuffed. I’m hoping that I will be able to finish it tonight. It feels really good to be crafting again! It has been so long since I have done anything crafty at all. Maybe I’ll get get some cute calicos this weekend so that I can get started on the pillow. Or, maybe I should finish up some of the UFO’s (Un-Finished Objects!) that are flying around my house first. 😉 I have a scarf that I started knitting 2 years ago as a gift for my sister for Christmas……….I’ve dubbed it “The 2 Year Scarf”. How sad is that?

Christmas DVD Let’s just say that I am so excited and I just can’t stand it! My awesome DH bought something extra special for me last night that I was just dying to have. Yep, this is it. Christmas Television Favorites! Last year I bought the red box, which is called “The Original Television Christmas Classics” because it has Rudloph on it and my secret crush, The Bumble, not to mention other classic shows. I grew up on these and I remember how excited I was each year when they started showing them on TV. Oh, the days before cable and DVD’s! These shows will always hold a special place in my heart! And, I do still watch them when they are on TV, even though I have them on DVD. It’s just different watching them on TV, commercials and all………I’m silly. I know. Silly and sentimental……lol

ice, ice baby

So our part of the wide, wide world was hit by a nice ice storm today. After all was said and done, we were lucky enough to have had no damage to our little trees, even though there were really starting to get droopy from the weight of the ice on their branches. I was able to get some neat photos w/o having to risk stepping out on our front porch. Thank goodness for my zoom lens!

woe is me…….

My beloved Green Bay Packers lost last night to the Dallas Cowboys. boo hoo. I was so hyped up for that game and it proved to be a nail-biter. Especially after Brett Favre hurt his arm and was out for the rest of the game and Aaron Rodgers had to fill in. Now I have to worry for the next 10 days weather or not he’ll be able to play at their next game. If he misses, it will be the end of several of his records! I had the wonderful pleasure of visiting the great city of Green Bay and Lambeau Field one summer. I would even dare say that I had a Favre siting while we were hanging out in the parking lot. lol I know it was him who drove by! lol I filled up my camera with photos that day and was even crazy enough to stand up through our sun roof as we were driving by the other side of the stadium so that I could have a photo of all sides of the stadium. A true fan……..;-) We weren’t able to go on the tour, but we did quite a bit of damage in the pro shop (yes, I bought a cheese head hat!) and had fun wandering around inside the main area. It was so frustrating to not be able to see the field, but oh well, maybe next time.

I am currently reading a really good book about Vince Lombardi. If you are a fan, I highly recommend this book: When Pride Still Mattered:A Life of Vince Lombardi by David Maraniss.

And, speaking of Vince Lombardi. Here is his larger than life statue that stands at the main entrance to Lambeau Field:

We spent Thanksgiving at my mom’s house out in the country. We woke up that morning to a light dusting of snow. It was so beautiful and I just had to take some pictures. So outside I went, camera in hand, and walked all around my mom’s little bit of land taking pictures. My city girl side was really showing when I came back inside because I had gone out there in my little ballet flats. Not too smart! I had ice, cold water squishing in between my toes! My shoes were soaking wet! Oh well, I got some nice pictures and I think that I might enlarge a few, frame them and give them to my mom for Christmas.

reach

I just love watching the daily little milestones of Baby G. Last night she really started reaching up for the toys while playing on her little mat, so of course I had to take photos of her today reaching up for the toys dangling above her. I just love watching her little hands reach up there and you can see her little mind concentrating so hard to make her arm and hand do what she wants it to. It’s these little treasures that I am so privileged to witness every day that make me thank God constantly for his beautiful, little gift from Heaven and that I am able to stay at home with her to treasure each and every little moment that we have together.

God Bless!
